Team ready to start Championship
On Thursday-evening, August 14, the Netherlands National Softball Team was send off to the World Championship during the Orange Blood Party at the Radisson Blu Hotel Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
It also was an Appreciation Party to thank not only relatives, but also sponsors, game officials and many others who supported the team in one way or another throughout the years en route to the World Championship and therefore have 'orange blood' in their vains.
More than 200 persons attended the evening, which was emceed by Margriet Brandsma (former reporter of NOS Journaal) and also included a discussion panel, the showing of two team-movies and a dinner for all.
After the guests had arrived, the players and staff-members of the Dutch Team were introduced.
Two short videos were then showed, which covered the preparations of the team.
During the discussion panel, Margriet Brandsma interviewed Head Coach Craig Montvidas, Haico Meijerink (CEO of main sponsor Sandd) and players Saskia Kosterink and Dagmar Bloeming in the first round.
In the second session, Peter van der Aart (President of the World Championship Organizing Committee), Bob Bergkamp (President Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association), Kim Zwaan (Right To Play) and Diana Remmers (BV Oranje / Be Part of the Challenge) took a seat behind the table.
Also, the official team magazine was presented tonight.
On Friday, August 15, the Orange squad opens the World Championship in Haarlem (Netherlands) at 8 PM against Team USA.
