and Columbus, Angelina Jolie, Nelson Mandela, Natasha Watley,
Tracy Chapman and my family of some centuries ago and many more

Career
2012 --- In March, Meike participates with the Dutch National Softball Team in the American Tour to Tennessee and Florida --- On March 1, in Game 2 of the trip, Meike is 2-for-3, scores once and has one RBI vs. the University of Tennessee --- On March 8, vs. Temple University, Meike is 2-for-4, scores once and had four RBI's --- Two days later, Meike is 2-for-4 and scores a run vs. Bradley University --- On March 16, she is 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI vs. Florida State University --- On May 27, Meike is 2-for-3 in both the first and second game of the Holland Tour against an All Star Team --- On June 8, Meike is one of 17 players named to the roster of the Dutch National Softball Team for participation in the World Cup of Softball (Oklahoma City, USA), a series of games in Seattle (USA) and the World Championship in Whitehorse (Canada) --- On June 26, Meike plays in her 50th international game for the Dutch Team in the first exhibition game against Australia, preceeding the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City --- On June 28, Meike is 2-for-4 and scores once against Canada in the opening game of the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City --- On July 2, Meike scores three runs in the bronze medal game of the World Cup of Softball against Canada --- On July 12, Meike hits 2-for-3, scores once and has three RBI's in an exhibition game against Chinese Taipei preceeding the World Championship in Canada --- In the regular season, Meike hits .299 with 40 basehits, including two homeruns. She scores 32 runs (second behind team-leader Ashli Holland) and has 17 RBI's, while sharing the team-lead with seven stolen bases --- With Terrasvogels, she clinches the Play-Offs, but the team is then eliminated by Alcmaria Victrix, which later wins the championship --- After completion of the season, Meike announces that she puts a hold on her softball-career for the moment to focus on other interests --- On September 26, during the last meeting of the National Team this year, Meike announces that she also withdraws from the national squad.
2011 --- In January, Meike changes her uniform number in the National Team from 11 to 13. Since making her debut in the National Team, Meike played all of her games with 11 as uniform number. The number 13 was last used by Petra van Heijst in 2009 --- In March, Meike participates with the Dutch National Team in the American Tour to Florida and Tennessee --- On March 2, Meike is 2-for-4 and scores twice vs. the University of Michigan --- The March 3, she hits 2-for-3 vs. Loyola Marymount University --- On March 6, she goes 2-for-3 again vs. Georgia Southern University --- On March 8, Meike has her fourth 2-hit game of the trip, hitting 2-for-4 and scores once vs. Central Michigan University --- On March 13, Meike scores twice and has two RBI's vs. the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay --- On April 3, Meike wins the award for Best Hitter of the annual International Mastenbroek Tournament in Enschede (Netherlands), which is won by her clubteam Terrasvogels --- In June, Meike participates with the Dutch National Team in the Torneo 150 Anni Unitá d'Italia in Bollate (Italy) and therefore is a member of the team when it plays the 100th game in history against Italy on June 2 --- The next day, Meike is 2-for-2 with a double, scores a run and has two RBI's vs. the Czech All Stars --- On July 3, in the first game of a double-header (which was part of the Holland Tour) against the National Team of Argentina, Meike is 2-for-3, including a triple, and scores twice --- In the second game vs. Argentina, Meike was 1-for-3 (a triple), scored once and had one RBI --- On July 13, Meike is one of the 17 players named to the roster of the Dutch National Softball Team for this years European Championship in Italy --- On July 31, Meike is 2-for-4, scores twice and has one RBI vs. Ukraine in the opening game of the European Championship in Italy --- The next day, she is 2-for-3, scores once and has three RBI's vs. Belgium --- On August 2, Meike scores as a pinch-runner, then singles in the same at bat and scores again in the game against Denmark --- On August 3, she is 2-for-4, scores a run and has one RBI against Great Britain --- On August 4, Meike is 3-for-3, including two doubles, scores a run and has one RBI in the game vs. France --- On August 6, she hits two singles and scores three runs in the final against Italy --- Later in August, Meike participates in the European Cup Winners Cup-tournament in Castions di Strada (Italy) with Terrasvogels, which finishes in second place --- In the regular season, her first with Terrasvogels, Meike hits .333, scores 18 runs, hits 30 basehits and has eight RBI's --- In the Additional Round, that follows the regular season, Meike hits .476 (10-for-21) with seven RBI's, leading this pool overall with her ten basehits --- In the Play-Offs, Meike leads all players of the four participating teams with a .600 batting average (6-for-10) --- In October, Meike is one of 21 players named to the preliminary roster of the Dutch National Softball Team for the 2012 season.
2010 --- In January, Meike participates with the National squad (playing for Team White) in the International Indoor Cup in Schiedam (Netherlands) with her team finishing in third place --- On January 18, Meike is one of 21 players named to the preliminary roster for this years World Championships --- On May 26, Meike is one of 16 players who is named to the final roster for the World Championship in Venezuela --- In August, Meike participates in the European Cup Tournament in Haarlem (Netherlands) with Tex Town Tigers, which for the first time in history captures this Cup --- In the regular season, Meike hits .408, but plays in only 19 games, missing part of the season due to a leg-injury. She scores seven runs and has five runs batted in --- After completion of the season, Meike leaves Tex Town Tigers after having played there for 15 seasons, including six big league-seasons, as she is moving to Amsterdam for her study. Because of this, Meike decides to transfer to Terrasvogels for the 2011 season --- On October 31, Meike is one of 24 players to be named to the preliminary roster of the Dutch National Softball Team for the 2011 season.
2009 --- On May 3, Meike makes her debut in the Dutch National Softball Team during the opening game of the Holland Tour vs. Euro Stars. In her debut, Meike hits an infield-hit in her first at bat --- On May 10, Meike steals three bases, including home plate, in the opening game vs. Centrals --- On May 17, Meike leads off the first game against Gryphons with an inside-the-park-homerun --- On May 20, Meike singles, doubles and triples and scores twice in the double-header vs. the Dutch Juniors --- Meike collects three hits, including a 2-run triple, scores two runs and has three RBI's on May 24 in the double-header vs. Twins in which she scores the 100th Dutch run in the Holland Tour --- Meike is 2-for-3, scores once and has one RBI in the opening game and adds two runs in the second game against the Foreign All Stars on May 27 --- On May 27, Meike is one of the 17 players who is named to the final roster for the Dutch National Team to participate in this years international events --- On June 3, Meike is 2-for-3 with a double, scores once and has one RBI in the opening game against the Dutch Junior Team --- Meike is 4-for-9, scores twice and has two RBI's in the double-header on June 7 vs. the Foreign All Star Team --- On July 4, Meike makes her international debut vs. the USA, which is the opening game of the Canada Cup --- Three days later, on July 7, Meike is 2-for-3 with a double in the game vs. Australia, during the Canada Cup --- On July 8, Meike is 2-for-4 in the second victory vs. Venezuela, during the Canada Cup --- On July 10, Meike is 2-for-4 in the game vs. TFS International, during the Canada Cup --- On July 25, Meike is 2-for-3 and scores once in an exhibition game vs. Great Britain prior the European Championships in Valencia --- On July 28, Meike is 3-for-5 and has an RBI in the game vs. Austria during the European Championships --- On August 1, Meike is a member of the Dutch Team which brings the European title back to the Netherlands for the first time in 19 years --- Two weeks later, Meike participates with Tex Town Tigers in the European Cup Tournament in Legnano (Italy), which is her first EC-event --- In the regular season, Meike hits .326, scores 24 runs (third best of her team), hits 31 basehits and has 14 runs batted in --- Meike again reaches the Holland Series with Tex Town Tigers, which wins its second consecutive Dutch championship title.
2008 --- In her second season at Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), Meike again is the best hitter of her team with a .416 batting average. She also leads the Stars in basehits (84) and is second in runs scored (37). Appearing in 64 games, she has 24 runs batted in and steals eleven bases. One of her teammates this year in Jacksonville is Lotte Holvast, who plays together with Meike for Tex Town Tigers and is a member of the National Junior Team --- After completion of her outstanding season at FCCJ, Meike is named into five different All Star-teams, is named her team's Most Valuable Player and receives the President's Award, which is handed out annually to the outstanding student athlete at FCCJ --- After returning from Florida, Meike joins Tex Town Tigers again and plays in 22 games. Tex Town Tigers not only qualifies for the play-offs and Holland Series, but also becomes the first team from the east of the country to win the Dutch championship title --- On December 11, Meike is one of 28 players being named to the preliminary roster of the Dutch National Team for 2009 and is invited to start practice in January.
2007 --- Playing for Florida Community College at Jacksonville (USA), Meike leads her team with a .343 batting average. She finishes in second place in basehits (61) and runs scored (39) and has eleven RBI's and 26 stolen bases --- With Florida, she qualifies for the State Tournament. In the same tournament, Areke Spel and Karin Tuk participate with Chipola College --- With the Dutch National Junior Team, Meike participates in the World Junior Championships in Enschede (The Netherlands). There, the team qualifies for the play-offs for the first time in history --- In the regular season, Meike plays in only 19 games for Tex Town Tigers between her two seasons in Florida.
2005 --- Playing for Tex Town Tigers, Meike makes her debut in the Dutch big league, collecting 18 basehits in her first season --- After completion of the season, she is awarded the Bep van Beijmerwerdt Trophy for most talented Dutch youth player.
2004 --- This year, Meike makes her debut in the Dutch National Junior Team, which wins the European title during the European Championships in France.
2003 --- Meike gets her first international experience, as she is a member of the WindMill Little League, which is compiled of players from the Enschede-region. In Jeffersontown (Kentucky) in the USA, the team represents Europe in the Senior League World Series, one of the annual championships under the auspices of the Little League-organization.
Family
MEIKE is the daughter of Machteld and Marlene and has two brothers, Jelmer and Douwe.
Jelmer is catcher in the main squad of Tex Town Tigers (First Division) until 2010, but plays in the Amsterdam Pirates-organization in 2011, being the bullpen-catcher of the main squad that wins the Dutch championship title and participates in the European Cup Final Four in the Czech Republic. Douwe plays in a youth-team of Tex Town Tigers and participated in the 2007 Little League World Series.
