Day 2: Dutch Team beats All Stars|
GRONINGEN (Netherlands) - At the site of Caribe in the northern city of Groningen, the Dutch National Softball Team won 3-2 against the Holland All Stars, a specially formed team, which consists of foreign players in the Dutch big league, completed with players from the eight big league-teams.
The Dutch Team opened the score with a run in the second inning off starter Blake Hoorelbeke (Terrasvogels).
Sandra Gouverneur led off with a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Dana Horeman, who then advanced on a sac-bunt by Kristi de Vries, then scored on a double by Jolanda Kroesen.
The latter stranded on second base, as two outs followed.
The Dutch doubled their lead in the fourth inning when Marloes Fellinger led off with a homerun, which was her fifth of the year, while playing for the Dutch National Team.
Marloes was the first batter to face new pitcher Mercedes Lovato (Olympia Haarlem).
The Holland All Stars came back with a run in the sixth inning off Kristi de Vries, who went the distance for the Dutch Team.
After giving up only three basehits in five innings, the righthander gave up two in the sixth, resulting in the run.
Solange Starrenburg (Terrasvogels) led off with single, advanced on a passed ball, then scored when Karin Tuk (Computer SOS Tex Town Tigers) doubled with one out, but hereafter two fly-outs followed.
The Dutch Team got the run back right away in its sixth at bat off Lindsey Meadows (Computer SOS Tex Town Tigers), the fourth pitcher for the All Stars, who relieved Crissy Autry (Terrasvogels).
With two outs, Sandra Gouverneur singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Britt Vonk (who remained in the game as the new short stop).
After advancing on a passed ball, Britt scored when Kristi de Vries doubled.
The Holland All Stars narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the seventh inning.
Nadine Marinus (Computer SOS Tex Town Tigers) led off with a triple and scored when Nathalie Gosewehr (Terrasvogels) hit a sacrifice fly with one out.
A grounder then ended both the inning and the game.
