Orange Team wins twice vs. US College All Star Team

Nederlandse tekst

The Netherlands National Softball Team played two exhibition games against an American College All Star Team on Friday, June 27 at Haarlem. The games were played on the Nol Houtkamp Sportcomplex, which will be the site of the upcoming ISF World Championship in August.

The Orange squad registered a 17-0 shutout in the opener against the Stars, then won the second game 9-2 against the Stripes. Game 2 was highlighted by two homeruns hit by Jessie van Aalst.

The two games were the last activities for the team before leaving for the USA. The team travels to Illinois on Tuesday for its second American Tour of the year.

In the afternoon, the team held a picknick near the Pim Mulier Baseball Stadium in Haarlem and visited the Dutch Baseball and Softball Museum, which is located inside the stadium.

After completion of the first game, the team thanked Saskia Cicilia, the Travel Manager of Face2Face Travel, which had arranged the tickets for the trip to Florida earlier this year. She also took care of the changes that had to be made.

After the second game, the team was handed a travel-set for the upcoming trip to Illinois by Jacqueline Bloeming, the mother of pitcher Dagmar Bloeming. The travel-sets are sponsored by Darphin Nederland.

Game One
In the first game today, pitchers Femke van Dusschoten, Rebecca Soumeru and Lindsey Meadows struckout 15 batters combined. Lead-off hitter Magio MacKenzie was the lone player of Stars to hit a basehit and she did it twice.

The Dutch Team collected 23 basehits, including four by Nathalie Timmermans, who also scored three runs and had three runs batted in. All players in the Dutch line-up hit at least two basehits in the game. Eight of the nine players scored at least once, while seven players were credited with at least one run batted in.

The Orange squad opened the score with three runs in the first at bat. Britt Vonk led off with a bunt-single, then Merel Oosterveld also singled. After a double-steal, they scored on singles by Nathalie Timmermans (with one out) and Nathalie Gosewehr (with two outs). A following single by Marisèla de Wind then brought in the third run.

Two runs were added in the second inning, which began with an error, but then the bases were left loaded in the third at bat.

A double by Dinet Oosting and single by Nathalie Gosewehr increased the lead to 7-0 in the fourth.

Two runs were then scored in the fifth on an error and after a scoreless sixth inning, the Dutch Team staged an 8-run rally in the seventh inning to lift the lead to 17-0. The first eight batters all reached on a basehit and the rally was highlighted by four consecutive extra-basehits. The bases got loaded on singles by Marisèla de Wind, Anne Blaauwgeers and Eva Voortman. The first two then scored on a single by Britt Vonk. And then, the extra-basehits followed, as Merel Oosterveld doubled, Saskia Kosterink tripled, Nathalie Timmermans doubled and Dinet Oosting also tripled. A grounder by De Wind then accounted for the final run in the game.

Game Two
In the second game, pitchers Ginger de Weert, Eva Voortman and Dagmar Bloeming struckout nine batters and gave up five hits. Two of them were hit by lead-off hitter Kristina Victa, both doubles. She also scored both runs for the Stripes.

The Dutch Team this time scored four runs in the opening at bat. Chantal Versluis reached on an error, then Eva Voortman singled. Next, Virginie Anneveld doubled, enabling Versluis to score, but Voortman was eliminated at the plate. Hereafter, Marisèla de Wind singled in the next run and then Jessie van Aalst followed with a line drive 2-run homerun.

An error led to a run in the second inning, then four more runs were added in the fourth at bat. Virginie Anneveld batted in a run with her second double and later in the at bat, Jessie van Aalst connected for her second line drive 2-run homerun to make it 9-1.
