Small victory for Orange squad
The Netherlands National Softball Team won 2-1 on Sunday, August 10 in its second confrontation with the team of the University of Alabama.
The game was halted in the top of the fifth inning because of rain and didn't resume anymore.
There also had been a 24-minute rain delay in the first inning.
Femke van Dusschoten went the distance and gave up three hits.
The Eleven City Tour resumes on Tuesday-evening, August 12 at the site of Hoofddorp Pioniers.
Starting a 7:30 PM, the Orange squad then meets reigning world champion Japan.
The Dutch Team opened the score in the first inning.
With one out, Merel Oosterveld walked.
She then advanced to second base when next batter Britt Vonk and was able to score when an errant throw followed.
In the first Alabama-at bat, lead-off hitter Chandler Dare was hit by a pitch and moved on an error.
Dutch pitcher Femke van Dusschoten then followed with a strikeout, but then the game was interrupted by rain.
During the delay, the players of both teams performed several dances to entertain the spectators.
After a 24-minute delay, the game and the inning resumed and Jadyn Spencer became the second Alabama-runner.
The inning ended when Femke added two strikeouts.
In the second inning, the Crimson Tide came alongside.
With one out, Peyton Grantham doubled and went on to score on a 2-out double by Chandler Dare, but Alabama stranded runners at second and third base in this inning.
The Orange squad got back on top in the fourth inning.
Britt Vonk led off with a single and stole second base.
She then moved to third base when Saskia Kosterink flied out and scored the go-ahead run on a following sacrifice fly by Virginie Anneveld.
Alabama was held scoreless in the third and fourth at bat, stranding a runner on third and second base repectively.
In the top of the fifth inning, Leslie Jury took over the Alabama-pitching for starter Sydney Littlejohn.
She saw lead-off hitter Nathalie Gosewehr hit a pop-fly.
This was the last action of the game, as it was interrupted for a second time by rain.
This time, it was not possible to resume the game and it was halted definitively.
After the game, a tasteful barbecue ended the day.
