Dutch Team outhits All Stars
On Day 3 of the 11 City World Championship Promo Tour, the Netherlands National Softball Team lost today (Sunday, August 3) 4-2 to the Dutch American All Stars.
Today's game was played at the site of Euro Stars in Capelle a/d IJssel.
The Orange squad outhit the All Stars 4-3, but ended up empty-handed.
The Tour continues on Tuesday with the fourth game to be played in Moergestel.
The Dutch Team got its first scoring opportunity in the first inning off of Whitney Johnson, pitcher of Centrals.
Areke Spel led off with a walk and stole second base.
After a flyout, Chantal Versluis also walked.
Next, Saskia Kosterink lined out and an attempt to double up Areke led to a throwing error and runners on first and third base.
Moments later, Chantal advanced on a fielder's choice, but she and Areke were left behind.
In the second at bat, Dinet Oosting led off with a single, but was forced out on a grounder by Merel Oosterveld.
After the latter stole second base, the next two batters struckout.
In the first at bat of the All Stars, Anouk van den Heuvel (Hotel Ambassador Haarlem Terrasvogels) was on first base with two outs when next batter Erin Belles (Gryphons) lined the ball into leftfield.
But there, Nathalie Gosewehr made a nice catch to end the inning.
The All Stars then opened the score in the third inning off of starter Lindsey Meadows.
With one out and Kehli Washington (Gryphons) on first base, a pop-fly followed, then Anouk van den Heuvel doubled to bring in the first run.
Moments later, the latter scored the next run when Erin Belles singled.
In the fourth inning, Dominique Sprengers led off with a single, but was later caught stealing.
The All Stars then added two runs in the fifth inning off of Ginger de Weert.
Michelle van Driel (Oolders Omaco Sparks Haarlem) and Damishah Charles (Twins) then both reached on an error, which led to runners on first and third base.
A grounder by Kehli Washington and sacrifice fly by Emma Wojcik (Centrals) then brought in the runs and lifted the lead to 4-0.
Femke van Dusschoten threw the sixth inning for the Orange and retired the side, including two strikeouts.
Emma Holden (Gryphons) took over the pitching for the All Stars in the fourth inning and retired all six batters she faced.
In the sixth inning, Heather Ryder (Hoofddorp Pioniers) became the third pitcher for the All Stars.
She gave up the two Dutch runs in this at bat.
With one out, Chantal Versluis doubled and Saskia Kosterink walked.
They then scored when Virginie Anneveld and Dinet Oosting followed with singles.
Next, with runners on second and third base, Merel Oosterveld lined out.
Hereafter, Karin Tuk was walked intentionally to set up a force play, but a pop-fly then ended the inning.
It was the last scoring opportunity for the Dutch Team, as the side was retired in the seventh inning.
After the game, the teams enjoyed a meal in the clubhouse.
