Dutch Team returns home
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (USA) - After completion of the World Cup of Softball, the Dutch National Softball Team returned home safely on Wednesday-morning, traveling from Oklahoma City to Memphis to Amsterdam.
Their stay at home will be briefly, as the Team will leave again on Friday when it will fly to Valencia in Spain for the upcoming European Championships, which opens next Monday.
The team left in the morning for Will Rogers World Airport to board the plane en route to Memphis.
But there was a problem, as this was a relative small airplane (a Bombardier CRJ-700, CRJ stands for Canadair Regional Jet), seating 68 people.
The problem was that we had too much carry-on luggage.
Normally, oversized carry-on luggage in these small planes is stowed in a separate container (plainside), but since we had too much, it took a while, before the cabin crew could store everything, meaning we left with a delay.
Despite the delay, the flight took just over an hour and so we arrived on time in Memphis for the flight back to Amsterdam.
The United Airlines Airbus 330-700 took off on time and Captain Bigelow and his First Officers Drechsler and Stewart guided the plane in just over eight hours to Schiphol Airport, where we touched down just before 11 AM on Wednesday-morning.
On Thursday, the team is off and will have the chance to do some laundry, as everyone will be back at the airport on Friday for the flight to Valencia for the upcoming European Championships.
