World Championship Game Schedule set by ISF
PLANT CITY, Florida (USA) - The International Softball Federation (ISF) today announced the game schedule of the 12th Women World Championship, which will be held June 23-July 2 in Venezuelan capital Caracas.
In ten days, a total of 66 games will be played, with 16 national teams participating in the event.
The World Championships opens on Wednesday, June 23 with the match-up between Olympic champion Japan and Argentina, to be followed by the Opening Ceremonies.
In the evening, host Venezuela faces the Dominican Republic.
Reigning world champion USA will play its first game the next day vs. China.
The Dutch National Softball Team opens the World Championship on Thursday, June 24 against Great Britain, marking a replay of the final game of last years European Championship in Valencia (Spain), which was won by the Dutch squad.
The game will start at 5:00 PM local time.
The next day, the Dutch will face Japan, starting at 3:00 PM, then plays two games on Saturday, June 26.
In the morning, the team of Head Coach Craig Montvidas will play against Argentina (11:00 AM), then faces Cuba in the afternoon (5:00 PM).
On June 27, the Dutch Team will play its fifth game, meeting South Africa at 5:00 PM, to be followed by the match-up vs. Chinese Taipei on June 28, starting at 3:00 PM.
The Dutch close the preliminary round on Tuesday, June 29 vs. Canada at 7:00 PM, which also will mark the last game of the preliminary round overall.
On June 30 and July 1, the Play-Offs will be played.
The four best teams in each pool qualify for the Play-Offs, with the bottom four being eliminated.
On June 30, the first four Play-Off games are played with two more teams being eliminated after completion of this day.
On July 1, the remaining four Play-Off games will be played determining the first finalist, but also three more teams to be eliminated.
On July 2, the two remaining games of the World Championship will be played, the first to determine the bronze medal, the second to determine the world champion in the gold medal game.
The Dutch National Softball Team will play in Pool A.
Pool B is compiled of Australia, Botswana, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, USA and Venezuela.
