Dutch Softball Team to play at least 14 games
Nederlandse tekst
VOORTHUIZEN (Netherlands) -
On Saturday, January 8, the schedule was announced for the trip to the USA where the Dutch National Softball Team will conduct a trainingcamp in the first two weeks of March.
The Dutch squad will stay primarily in Clearwater (Florida), but will also travel to Knoxville (Tennessee) to play four games there.
At the moment, 14 games are scheduled for the trip, but more might be added.
The team travels to Florida on February 28, then will be on the field the next morning to conduct its first practice session.
A day later, the Dutch Team is scheduled to play its first game, meeting the Wolverines, the softball-team of the University of Michigan at Eddie C. Moore Sports Complex in Clearwater, where most of the games are played.
This will be the first of at least nine games scheduled to be played in Clearwater.
One game is scheduled to be played at Tampa at the site of the University of South Florida, the newly built Frank Morsani Softball Stadium, which opens next month.
Frank and Carol Morsani, longtime supporters of USF, donated 10 million dollar recently which was used for the building of a 6-story patient care center, football practice complex and the softball stadium.
,,We are very excited to host the Dutch National Team'', states USF Head Coach Ken Eriksen.
,,To have an opportunity to play against a national team program that has played in the Olympics and fared very well at the World Championships will give our team a look at high level international play.
This should be a treat for our fans.''
In the weekend of March 5 and 6, the Dutch Team will play four games at the site of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The team will fly from Florida to Tennessee on Friday.
It returns in Clearwater on Monday, then resumes its game-schedule in the evening, playing vs. Ball State University Cardinals at 6:00 PM local time.
