Dutch Team has encounter with dolphins; game re-scheduled
Nederlandse tekst
CLEARWATER / CLEARWATER BEACH, Florida (USA) -
The Dutch National Softball Team on Friday, March 11 had the morning off and enjoyed a boat-trip off the coast of Clearwater.
Also today, the afternoon game against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was re-scheduled, as the opponent arrived late in Florida on Thursday-evening, due to travel delays by snow back home in Wisconsin.
Besides that, Wisconsin already had two games scheduled today that were part of the USF Under Armour Invitational & Showcase.
Wisconsin won both games, defeating Central Connecticut (5-2) and Quinnipiac (7-2).
The Dutch vs. Wisconsin game is now re-scheduled for next Sunday, preceeding the already scheduled game vs. Quinnipiac University.
The Dutch Team will play it's next game on Saturday-evening vs. Robert Morris University, starting at 8 PM (local, 2 AM Dutch time).
This game will be broadcasted live again by Backstop Radio Pengue.
During the 1 1/2 hour boat-trip, the team was aboard 'Little Toot', a forty foot authentic tug boat, which guarantees dolphin sightings, because it is able to not only go into Clearwater Harbor, but also the Gulf of Mexico.
During the trip, the boat also went by the (beach)houses of celebrities as actor John Travolta, (British) racing driver Nigel Mansell and actor/professional wrestler Hulk Hogan (pictured left).
After the boat-trip, the team had lunch at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill (seafood and sandwich restaurant), then went back to the hotel.
Now that everyone had the rest of the day off, it was a good opportunity to visit the International Mall to do some additional shopping (again).
In the evening, the team had dinner in Rumba Island Bar & Grill to close today's activities.
