St. John's Softball Adds Exhibition Game Vs. Dutch National Team To Schedule
Red Storm will face the Netherlands' best on March 8 in Clearwater, Fla.

Dec. 3, 2010

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John’s softball team will face the Dutch National Softball Team in an exhibition game on March 8, 2011, at 6 p.m. in Clearwater, Fla.

The game will be played at Clearwater Stadium Fields, the same site as the USF Under Armour Showcase, which the Red Storm will play in from March 11-13. Under NCAA rules, college softball teams are allowed to play one game against foreign team that will not count against its 56-game schedule.

''We are excited about the addition of a game against the Dutch National Team to our schedule,'' St. John’s head coach Amy Kvilhaug said. ''The timing worked out great as they will be in the Tampa-Clearwater area on their American Tour the same week we are in town for our spring break trip. It will be a great experience for our program to play against a high-level national team that is among best and has played against some of the greatest softball players in the world. The competition will surely prove to be an asset to our team as it should help to prepare us for the exciting challenges that our season presents us with.''

In the 12th ISF World Championships in Caracas, Venezuela, this past summer, the Dutch National Softball Team reached the playoffs for the first time in 16 years and took seventh place with wins over Great Britain, Argentina, Cuba and South Africa. In 2009, the team won the European Championships.
