Besides that it is also a sport in which you have to think a lot with a lot of rules. This all makes it very interesting |

On March 5, Merel hits a 2-run homerun vs. the University of Louisiana-Monroe ---
A day later, she hits 2-for-3 and scores twice vs. University of Tennessee ---
On March 8, Merel is 2-for-4 with a triple, scores a run and has two RBI's vs. Central Michigan University ---
On March 10, she goes 2-for-3, scores twice and has one RBI vs. St. Joseph's University ---
On May 15, Merel is 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI's in the opening game of the Holland Tour vs. Holland All Stars at De Bilt, then is 3-for-3 again with three runs in the second game of the double-header ---

In August, Merel participates in the European Cup Tournament in Haarlem (Netherlands) with Tex Town Tigers, which for the first time in history captures this Cup ---

In the Holland Series, Merel's team Tex Town Tigers defeats Sparks Haarlem to become to first Dutch champion in history from the east of the country ---
On December 11, Merel is one of 28 players being named to the preliminary roster of the Dutch National Team for 2009 and is invited to start practice in January.
2007 --- Merel hits above .300 for the first time in her big league-career, finishing with a .362 average, 34 basehits (including her first homerun) and 13 runs scored.
2006 --- In her second season on the highest level, Merel has 24 basehits and scores 14 runs.
2005 --- Nine years after her mother Ingrid made her big league-debut, Merel plays in her first game in the Dutch Major Leeague, also for Tex Town Tigers. In 35 games, she collects her first 14 big league-basehits.
2004 --- In the final of the European Championships for Juniors in France, Merel bats in the winning run, resulting in an European title for the Dutch Junior-squad.
2003 --- After participating in the international Indoor Cup-tournament in January, Merel gains more international experience when she participates with a team from Enschede in the Senior League World Series, one of the events of the Little League-organization ---
Later in the year, she makes her debut in the Dutch National Junior Team and travels to Aruba to participate in the Kingdom Games, the bi-annual sports events for young athletes from the Netherlands, Aruba and Netherlands Antilles.

| MEREL is the daughter of Bert and Ingrid Oosterveld and has two brothers, Tim and Mikkel, who both play baseball at Tex Town Tigers.
Merel's brother Tim is married to Dutch National Team-pitcher Lindsey Meadows.
Father Bert is a member of several committees for Tex Town Tigers and also is active as a softball-umpire.
Mother Ingrid played softball herself with Tex Town Tigers in the Dutch Major League in 1996 and was the Assistant Coach of Tex Town Tigers in 2008 and 2009 when it won the Dutch championship. On May 4, 1996, in the first game of a double-header against Robur '58, Ingrid hits the first big league-homerun in the history of Tex Town Tigers. |
