Why did you start playing softball?The (new) field of Tex Town Tigers was constructed behind our home

Accomplishments / HighlightsWith the Dutch Juniors, winning the European title in 2004 and
finishing in seventh place on the World Junior Championships in 2007

the President's Award at FCCJ in 2008
Biggest blunderPfff, I really don't know, I quite often make blunders
Which persons do you most admire?My Pake and Beppe, as they always remain themselves
Which persons would you like to meet?Well, that are a lot of people, but Isaac Newton seems interesting to me
and Columbus, Angelina Jolie, Nelson Mandela, Natasha Watley,
Tracy Chapman and my family of some centuries ago and many more
Three people you would love to have dinner with?My three best friends
Dreamjob?Could be handy to know that, but I really have no idea.
In any case, no office job.
From who did you learn the most?My parents
Biggest turn-off?Negative and close-minded people
Talent you wish you had?A feeling for rhythm, haha, and being able to do mathematics quickly

Why does softball has to return to the Olympics?Because it is the most beautiful sport in the world and because there
are a LOOOOOOT of girls who think of that the same way as I do

Career
2010 --- In January, Meike participates with the National squad (playing for Team White) in the International Indoor Cup in Schiedam (Netherlands) with her team finishing in third place --- On January 18, Meike is one of 21 players named to the preliminary roster for this years World Championships --- On May 26, Meike is one of 16 players who is named to the final roster for the World Championship in Venezuela.
2009 --- On May 3, Meike makes her debut in the Dutch National Softball Team during the opening game of the Holland Tour vs. Euro Stars. In her debut, Meike hits an infield-hit in her first at bat --- On May 10, Meike steals three bases, including home plate, in the opening game vs. Centrals --- On May 17, Meike leads off the first game against Gryphons with an inside-the-park-homerun --- On May 20, Meike singles, doubles and triples and scores twice in the double-header vs. the Dutch Juniors --- Meike collects three hits, including a 2-run triple, scores two runs and has three RBI's on May 24 in the double-header vs. Twins in which she scores the 100th Dutch run in the Holland Tour --- Meike is 2-for-3, scores once and has one RBI in the opening game and adds two runs in the second game against the Foreign All Stars on May 27 --- On May 27, Meike is one of the 17 players who is named to the final roster for the Dutch National Team to participate in this years international events --- On June 3, Meike is 2-for-3 with a double, scores once and has one RBI in the opening game against the Dutch Junior Team --- Meike is 4-for-9, scores twice and has two RBI's in the double-header on June 7 vs. the Foreign All Star Team --- On July 4, Meike makes her international debut vs. the USA, which is the opening game of the Canada Cup --- Three days later, on July 7, Meike is 2-for-3 with a double in the game vs. Australia, during the Canada Cup --- On July 8, Meike is 2-for-4 in the second victory vs. Venezuela, during the Canada Cup --- On July 10, Meike is 2-for-4 in the game vs. TFS International, during the ,a href="cc09.htm">Canada Cup --- On July 25, Meike is 2-for-3 and scores once in an exhibition game vs. Great Britain prior the European Championships in Valencia --- On July 28, Meike is 3-for-5 and has an RBI in the game vs. Austria during the European Championships --- On August 1, Meike is a member of the Dutch Team which brings the European title back to the Netherlands for the first time in 19 years --- Two weeks later, Meike participates with Tex Town Tigers in the European Cup Tournament in Legnano (Italy), which is her first EC-event --- In the regular season, Meike hits .326, scores 24 runs (third best of her team), hits 31 basehits and has 14 runs batted in --- Meike again reaches the Holland Series with Tex Town Tigers, which wins its second consecutive Dutch championship title.
2008 --- In her second season at Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), Meike again is the best hitter of her team with a .416 batting average. She also leads the Stars in basehits (84) and is second in runs scored (37). Appearing in 64 games, she has 24 runs batted in and steals eleven bases. One of her teammates this year in Jacksonville is Lotte Holvast, who plays together with Meike for Tex Town Tigers and is a member of the National Junior Team --- After completion of her outstanding season at FCCJ, Meike is named into five different All Star-teams, is named her team's Most Valuable Player and receives the President's Award, which is handed out annually to the outstanding student athlete at FCCJ --- After returning from Florida, Meike joins Tex Town Tigers again and plays in 22 games. Tex Town Tigers not only qualifies for the play-offs and Holland Series, but also becomes the first team from the east of the country to win the Dutch championship title --- On December 11, Meike is one of 28 players being named to the preliminary roster of the Dutch National Team for 2009 and is invited to start practice in January.
2007 --- Playing for Florida Community College at Jacksonville (USA), Meike leads her team with a .343 batting average. She finishes in second place in basehits (61) and runs scored (39) and has eleven RBI's and 26 stolen bases --- With Florida, she qualifies for the State Tournament. In the same tournament, Areke Spel and Karin Tuk participate with Chipola College --- With the Dutch National Junior Team, Meike participates in the World Junior Championships in Enschede (The Netherlands). There, the team qualifies for the play-offs for the first time in history --- In the regular season, Meike plays in only 19 games for Tex Town Tigers between her two seasons in Florida.
2005 --- Playing for Tex Town Tigers, Meike makes her debut in the Dutch big league, collecting 18 basehits in her first season --- After completion of the season, she is awarded the Bep van Beijmerwerdt Trophy for most talented Dutch youth player.
2004 --- This year, Meike makes her debut in the Dutch National Junior Team, which wins the European title during the European Championships in France.
2003 --- Meike gets her first international experience, as she is a member of the WindMill Little League, which is compiled of players from the Enschede-region. In Jeffersontown (Kentucky) in the USA, the team represents Europe in the Senior League World Series, one of the annual championships under the auspices of the Little League-organization.
Family
MEIKE is the daughter of Machteld and Marlene and has two brothers, Jelmer and Douwe.
Jelmer is catcher in the main squad of Tex Town Tigers (First Division), while Douwe plays in a youth-team of Tex Town Tigers and participated in the 2007 Little League World Series.
