HAARLEM (Netherlands) -
Outfielder Linda Hoenderdos, who played in the Dutch National Softball Team in 2005, is the latest player who decided to play in the Italian Softball League in 2011.
After completion of the 2010 season, Linda initially retired, but she now comes out of retirement to add another season.
Linda started her career with Onze Gezellen in Haarlem with whom she played in the Dutch big league in 2001 and 2002.
She then played in the highest division for Iber Lengua Terrasvogels from 2004 through last season.
In 2007, she won the Dutch champion with the team from Santpoort, then captured the European Cup Winners Cup in Parma (Italy) in 2009.
After conclusion of last season, in which she batted .267, Linda initially retired as player.
However, then came the possibility to add another season in Italy.
Recently, Linda traveled to Italy and after returning confirmed that she will play for reigning Italian champion DES Caserta in 2011.
This is the same team where current National Team-player Nathalie Gosewehr also will play this year.
Linda and Nathalie were teammates at Terrasvogels through 2009.
Linda's best season in the Dutch big league was 2009 when she batted .393 with 44 basehits, 26 runs scored and 15 RBI's.
In November of last year, pitcher Lindsey Meadows and outfielder Nathalie Gosewehr both confirmed that they will play in the Italian Softball League this season.
As mentioned, Nathalie will play for Caserta, while Lindsey will play for Nuoro.
As outfielder Saskia Kosterink will return for her second season with Sanotint Bollate, this means that four Dutch players will play in Italy in 2011.
As an infielder, Linda was a member of the Dutch National Softball Team in 2005 and then participated in the Canada Cup and the European Championship in Prague (Czech Republic).
In total, Linda played in six official international games for the Dutch squad during those events.
