Dutch National Team starts new series of indoor games in Amsterdam

Nederlandse tekst

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - The Dutch National Softball Team on Friday, January 22 played its first game of a new series of indoor intersquad games to be played every Friday-afternoon at Sporthallen Zuid in Amsterdam through the end of March. Today, the team was joined again by three players from the Dutch Junior-squad.

Today's game was the first of 10 scheduled indoor intersquad games to be played on Friday-afternoon in Amsterdam. Last weekend, the players, divided over three different teams, played several games participating in the 15th International Indoor Cup Tournament in Schiedam. The three teams finished in the first three places.

As was the case on December 18, when the last indoor game of the 2009 season was played, the Dutch National Softball Team was joined by some players from the roster of the Dutch Junior Team. Participating in today's practice session and the intersquad game were Daphne Endlich, Cheryl Hiele and Suzanne Meiring. In the upcoming weeks, more players will be invited to get the opportunity to practice and play with the National Team.

The players and staff of the the Dutch Team thank today's umpires Albert Jung and Boyd Suk for their participation in the intersquad game. For the first time, the game was played in a different way, as each inning started with another situation (i.e. runners on base and/or number of outs).

The first intersquad game of the year ended with a towering 2-run homerun by Saskia Kosterink.
