AMSTERDAM (Netherlands) - The Dutch National Softball Team continued the 2012 Tulip League Indoor-season today with its second intersquad game. Seven more indoor games are scheduled in the upcoming weeks.

In the first game last week, only four runs were scored, today a total of 12 runs were registered. Some more facts of the first two games. Last week 7 basehits, this week 18. Last week 20 baserunners, this week 28. Last week 13 strikeouts, this week 9. Last week 17 groundouts, this week 16. Last week 5 flyouts (including line drives, pop-ups and foul-outs), this week 12.

Team Grey today won 9-3. Last week, all runs were scored in the final two at bats, today nine runs were already scored after completion of the fourth inning. Back-to-back 2-out doubles by Karin Tuk and Solange Starrenburg gave Team Black a run in the third inning, but then Team Grey again scored twice in its third at bat. With one out, Areke Spel and Virginie Anneveld walked. Areke then scored on a single by Yonina Sint Jago, while Fabienne van Uden (who ran for Virginie) was awarded home plate on an illegal pitch.

Team Black got another run back in the fourth inning when Petra van Heijst led off with a homerun to make it a 6-3 score. Petra's homerun was the first of this indoor-season (for the record, it was hit at 12:02 PM) and the 13th overall in Tulip League-history. Since early 2009, the Dutch Team plays indoor games to prepare for the international seasons. In the first months of 2009, these were just intersquad games, but starting in November of 2009, a Team Black and Team Grey were formed (with a different compilation every week) to play games against each other. Since then, 18 of these Black vs. Grey games were played (including today's game). In the first Tulip League-season (November 2009-February 2010) nine homeruns were hit in 10 games. In last year's season (January-March 2011), three homeruns were added in six games.

Team Grey added another run in the sixth inning. Marisèla de Wind then singled and scored on a 2-out single by Nathalie Gosewehr to make it 7-3. The team scored its final two runs in the seventh at bat. Anne Blaauwgeers, Meike Witteveen and Fabienne van Uden then led off with singles to load the bases. Next, Areke Spel also singled to bring in two runs and make it 9-3.

Today's practice session was led by Karen Marr, as Head Coach Craig Montvidas this morning flew to Italy to conduct a clinic in the upcoming weekend.

The game was officiated by umpires Hans Hornstra and Gerrit-Jan van der Hoeven, whom we thank for their support today.
