National Teams keep opponents scoreless
Nederlandse tekst
SCHIEDAM (Neth.) - On Saturday, January 16, Day 2 of the 15th International Indoor Cup Tournament, the three teams made up from players on the roster of the Dutch National Softball Team held all their opponents scoreless.
The three teams scores 93 runs combined in their 12 games played today.
Five of these were annulled due to tournament rules, which states that a game ends after 50 minutes op playing.
When the time limit is reached, the batter's plate appearance will be completed and the game ends.
The final score is that of the total of completed innings played.
Offensively, the three Dutch Team collected 88 basehits, with the opponents registering only nine.
The Dutch pitching threw five No-Hitters, including one Perfect Game.
With today's results, Team Blue, Orange and White are on their way to not only become the winners of their respective pools, but also of finishing in the top of the tournament.
Game 2: Team White vs. Great Britain
In Pool C, Team White shutout the national team of Great Britain, 14-0 (official score 13-0).
Starting pitcher Rebecca Soumeru threw two hitless innings, striking out the first five batters she faced.
Rookie Eva Voortman (one of the two Junior players in Team White) then took over and gave up the lone British hit to Ali Parkerson, as lead-off double in the fourth inning.
After a scoreless first inning, the all-lefty hitting Team White rallied for six runs in the second inning on three basehits.
Fabienne van Uden led off the inning with an infield-hit, then scored on a basesloaded error.
With the bases still loaded, Meike Witteveen followed with a runscoring infield-hit.
After an error accounted for an additional run, then with runners on first and second base, Anne Blaauwgeers also singled to bring in two more runs.
A grounder by Kim Donkers then made it 6-0.
Three runs were added in the third inning, including two on another single by Anne Blaauwgeers, who had four RBI's.
Anne's sister Maaike Blaauwgeers scored three runs, as did Junior Kimberly Jones, who reached base four times.
In the fourth, four runs were scored, without hitting a basehit.
A British error in the fifth at bat resulted in the 14th run.

Game 3: Team Orange vs. Neunkirchen Nightmares
Team Orange opened in Pool D with a 10-0 shutout vs. Neunkirchen Nightmares from Germany.
Pitcher Kirsten Scheele went the distance and threw a No-Hitter, while striking out 13 batters in 4 2/3 inning.
Of the first 12 batters Kirsten faced, she struckout eleven of them and walked one.
Only two German batters reached base, both on a walk, but neither of them went beyond first base.
Team Orange took charge of the game right away in the first at bat, scoring nine runs on four hits, while the German defense committed seven errors.
In the inning, Judith Diepeveen and Junior Kirsten Vierdag had RBI-singles and Virginie Anneveld connected for an RBI-double.
Nadine Marinus also singled in this inning and scored three runs in this game.
After a scoreless second inning, one run was added in the third at bat when Nadine Marinus walked and scored on an error.
Making her comeback in a National Team in this game was Noémi Boekel, who did the catching and went 1-for-3.
Noémi played her last game for the national squad during the Olympic Games in Beijing (China) in 2008.
Noémi was a guest-player on this event to be an additional catcher.

Game 4: Team Blue vs. Twins
Team Blue won its second game in Pool B, winning 13-0 vs. Twins, one of the two teams in this tournament from the Dutch Major League.
Rookie Malou van Dusschoten threw a 4-inning No-Hitter and struckout out six batters.
She allowed only one player to reach base.
After having retired the first ten batters in order, she walked Femke Duffhues with one out in the fourth inning, but she was eliminated moments later trying to steal second base, completing a double play, as next batter Debby Barbé (one of the players of the Dutch Juniors) struckout.
By the way, Femke is one of the 22 players being invited for practices of the Dutch Junior White Team.
Team Blue collected 11 basehits, including three by Nathalia Gosewehr, who also scored four runs and stole three bases.
Four runs were scored in the first inning.
After Nathalie Gosewehr and Chantal Versluis singled, the bases got loaded when Saskia Kosterink walked.
The first run was then scored when next batter Solange Starrenburg also walked.
Later in the inning, with runners on second and third base and two outs, Marisèla de Wind hit a 2-run double to make it 4-0.
Marisèla is one of the two Dutch Juniors in this team, the other being Rebecca Duindam
Marisèla went 2-for-3, Rebecca 1-for-3.
After adding a run in the second inning, three more were scored in the third inning, including one on a single by Saskia Kosterink.
With Saskia on second base, Solange Starrenburg drove the ball into deep leftfield for a dure double, but her hit turned into a weird double play.
According to the tournament rules, the balls hit off the walls in fair territory in Hall 3 (where this game was played) remain in play.
But since the leftfield-wall has a good distance from home plate, this is somewhat of a strange rule.
Solange hit the ball off the wall and when it came back, it was caught by leftfielder Sandy Lauwers, who then threw to 3B Sandra Catoen, who completed the double play by tagging out Saskia.
Two errors gave Team Blue an extra run in the fourth and four more were scored in the fifth on four consecutive basehits and a 2-run grounder by Karin Tuk.
Due to the time-limit, the last four runs were dropped from the official final score.

Two other batters reached base on a walk.
