Nederlandse tekst
SCHIEDAM (Neth.) - Team Blue of the Dutch National Softball Team opened the 15th edition of the International Indoor Cup Tournament in Schiedam on Friday-evening with a convincing 6-0 No-Hit ShutOut vs. Firestix from the USA in Pool B.
Added to Team Blue for this tournament were Junior-players Rebecca Duindam and Marisèla de Wind.
Pitching-duo (and sisters) Femke van Dusschoten and Malou van Dusschoten combined on a 4-inning No-Hitter.
Femke started the game and retired 10 of the 11 batters she faced, striking out six of them.
She allowed only one player, Angela Martin, to reach base, when she walked her with one out in the first inning.
Hereafter, Femke retired the next nine batters in a row, before being relieved with one out in the fourth inning by Malou, who then retired the only two batters she faced, including one on a strikeout.
The first batter Malou faced was retired on a nice over-the-fence-running-catch by 2B Rebecca Duindam.
Team Blue opened the score in the second inning.
Solange Starrenburg led off with a single, then stole both second and third base, before scoring on a grounder by next batter Karin Tuk.
After stranding two runners in the next at bat, Team Blue rallied for three runs in the fourth inning.
With one out, Anne Vlietstra walked, stole second and advanced on a deep ground rule single by Marisèla de Wind.
Next, she scored on a grounder by Rebecca Duindam.
Team Blue got runners on the corners when Nathalie Gosewehr followed with a single.
After the latter stole second base, Chantal Versluis connected for a 2-run double to make it 4-0.
Two runs were added in the fifth inning.
Karin Tuk (hit by pitch) and Marisèla de Wind (walk) then advanced on an infield-hit by Rebecca Duindam to load the bases.
Nathalie Gosewehr then followed with her third single of the evening (she was 3-for-4) to bring in a run and Chantal Versluis then walked to be credited with her third RBI of the evening.
After Rebecca was forced out at the plate on a nice play by short stop Ayla Spoljar, the bases remained loaded, as the tournament rule 50-minute time-rule was reached, meaning the game ended.
Because of this, the inning could not be completed, resulting in the official final score being 4-0 after four complete innings.
However, according to tournament rules, all statistics of the abbreviated at bat count in the totals.
