Day 9: No go, practice scrubbed
EMERYVILLE (California, USA) - The scheduled morning practice at the softball-field of the University of California in Berkeley had to be canceled, as it was raining steadily in the area. While waiting in the hotel-lobby for transfer to the field, Head Coach Liz Kelly had to announce that practice was canceled.
Better weather is expected, but it was not possible to move the practice to a later time, as today also is a travel day. In the afternoon, the team will travel to Davis, where it will stay the next two days.
At the University of California in Davis, the Dutch Pre-Olympic Softball Team will participate in the Davis Invitational Tournament, playing two games on Friday and two on Saturday.
On Saturday, the team meets the Providence College Friars and the California State University Bakersfield Roadrunners. On Sunday, another game is scheduled vs. Providence, to be followed by a match-up against host University of California Davis Aggies.

Head Coach Liz Kelly informs the players that today's practice was canceled

It was raining en route to Davis, but it was dry when we arrived
DAVIS (California, USA) - In the afternoon, the team drove to Davis, which took us about one hour and 15 minutes. While it kept on raining for a moment during the ride, it was dry when we arrived at the hotel. Tomorrow-morning, the team will play its first game of the tournament at 9 AM, facing Providence College.
Shortly before we left for Davis, André van Overbeek, the Vice President for Softball Affairs of the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) arrived and joined us for the ride to Davis. André will stay with the team for the remainder of the trip, which has a little under three weeks to go.
The ninth day started with rain and while there was disappointment about the cancelation of the morning practice, there also was happy news today, as pitcher Judith van Kampen learned she had become an aunt.
Her brother (Dutch Baseball Team-closer) Michiel and his wife Renae became the parents of a daughter, named Skylar Grace, who was born just after midnight early Friday-morning (Dutch time).
Of course, everyone of the Dutch Softball Team congratulates Michiel and Renae with their daughter.
