Day 3: Ready to play

BERKELEY (California, USA) - Day 3 brought the team again to the softball-site of the University of California at Berkeley. The beautiful location of the field on the campus, the bright blue sky and warm temperatures made it a great day to practice. While a big part of the USA is suffering from a cold front, today temperatures in the Bay Area were around 64 degrees Fahrenreit (about 18 Celsius) and as the cold wind we had yesterday was gone, it was a warm afternoon. By the way, today, it was 80 degrees F (27 C) in Honolulu (Hawaii), where we will go in 12 days.

On the second day of practice, an intensive batting session was held, combined with outfield plays, performed by all players. The pitchers threw again and as all five of them were throwing at the same time, three extra catchers were needed besides regular catchers Nina van Huissteden and Nathalie Timmermans. So, Noémi Boekel, Daisy de Peinder and Debby Connor all took on the gear and served as catcher.

During the batting session, some homeruns were hit (yeah, we saw some big ones leaving the field!). Therefore, Physical Therapist Rob Oskam and Media Officer Marco Stoovelaar frequently had to chase the balls, which went over the fence, but they brought in all of them. In the meantime, the coaching staff kept things going, as there was action all around the field, while Rob Walgien served as batting practice pitcher.

After the training session, a short intersquad game was played, creating several situations. After three-and-a-half-hour, the practice was over, the schedule for the coming days was announced and everyone was off for the remainder of the day.

Tomorrow, we have our first game. Then, the Dutch Team will meet St. Mary's College.
