USA wins Canada Cup final!
SURREY, British Columbia (Canada) - Team USA came from behind to defeat Canada 3-2 in the Grand Final to win the Canada Cup Tournament on Sunday-evening.
Before the game, a BackSoftball-presentation was held, which included Dutch National Team player Saskia Kosterink.
For the Dutch Team, it was then on to packing everything as tomorrow is a travel day. The Team on Monday will fly from Vancouver to Denver for a brief stop-over en route to Oklahoma City.
There, the next event is on the agenda: the World Cup of Softball.
During the BackSoftball-presentation, Saskia Kosterink was joined by Australian Danielle Stewart of Australia and ISF Vice President Dale McMann.
Saskia and Danielle were both named Athlete Ambassador by the International Softball Federation (ISF) in November to support the BackSoftball-campaign, which works for re-instatement of softball on the Olympic Program.
Last month, the ISF held a 20-minute presentation in Lausanne for the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee, as did six other candidate sports, including baseball.
A decision on what two sports might be added for the 2016 Olympic Games will be made on August 13 with a final vote to follow in October during the IOC Congress in Copenhagen (Denmark).
In her speech Saskia stated that the softball-presentation focused on the main areas, being that softball is a sport which focus on youth, education and development all around the world, that the sport is proud of its dope free status and that softball guarantees that the best athletes will participate in the Olympic Games, that softball is a pure sport and a stand alone sport and that softball will continue to grow into the future, while to sport will continue to fight and not gives up as softball deserves an Olympic status.
In the final game of the Canada Cup, the USA trailed 2-1 entering the home of the seventh inning, then scored two runs to win the game and the event.
