Nederlandse tekst

BOLLATE / MILAN (Italy) / AMSTERDAM (Neth.) - After breakfast, the team today traveled to Malpensa Airport in Milan for the flight back home. Before leaving, we said goodbye to Physical Therapist Ingrid Holstege, who stayed behind, as she planned to have a few extra days of traveling around in Italy. Also staying in Italy were Saskia Kosterink and Lindsey Meadows, who will resume the season in the Italian Sofball League coming weekend. Nathalie Gosewehr, the third Dutch player who plays in Italy, flew back to Amsterdam with the team. She will return back to Italy later in the week.

After a smooth check-in at the airport, the KLM Boeing 737-800, under the command of Captain Veek, took off from Malpensa Airport in Milan at 1:40 PM. At 2:59 PM, so only one hour and 19 minutes later, the plane touched down at Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam, meaning the trip to Bollate came to an end.

The next activities for the Dutch Team is a double-header in the Holland Tour against the Foreign All Star Team on Sunday, June 12 at Alkmaar.

Tournament in Bollate
The international tournament in Bollate was held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Italian unification.

On March 17, it was 150 years ago that the United Kingdom of Italy was formed and on that day, Italian President Napolitano gave the start of a year of celebrations. The President opened the festivities in Reggio Emilia, where in 1797, the Italian National Flag, the Tricolore, was created. President Napolitano handed a flag to the Mayors of Torino, Florence (which were respectively the first and second capitol of Italy) and Rome, which is the Italian capitol since 1871.

Since 1860, Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) (pictured right) led a group that fought for the freedom and unification of Italy and succeeded. In 1861, the Kingdom of Piemont-Sardinia became the Kingdom of Italy and on March 17 of that year, Garibaldi (who is a national hero in Italy) handed power to Vittore Emanuele, who became the first King of Italy. In 1946, Italy became a republic.
